LEGO City Update #22 – Music Store (Revisited)

LEGO City Update #22 – Music Store (Revisited). In this video I am revisiting my LEGO Music Store. The first version of the top floor turned out a little underwhelming and in this video I’m trying to correct it. A Music store is a must in a LEGO city I think and in this video I also show you how I build parts of this LEGO Building. I hope you find it informative!

Thank you for watching!

  1. Your music shop and city look really good. One slight improvement to the 3D signs might be to tilt the guitar a little bit to the right and (if it isn’t already) the note a little bit to the left

  2. Hi Jakob,
It looks much better with the vertical alignment of the columns and windows and the continuation of the keyboard motif.
IMHO the giant guitar with the note stave and the keyboard motif is enough. With the giant white note it shouts “MUSIC!!” too loudly πŸ™‚
If you really want to keep it, you could put the giant note on the roof?
I don’t think you need the balcony especially without a door leading to it (IMHO it would be better to have the space inside the shop), but from a visual perspective it does give some interest to the building outline and roofline rather than just being a big block.
    Enjoying the organic build process!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I think the visual interest will win out over practicality most of the time in my city πŸ˜€ The balcony looks interesting even though it’s not functional (for minifigs). However, I think there are plenty of real world examples of architecture for the sake of aesthetics and not function. But I completely understand your argument and I have considered building the top floor without the balcony. Thanks a lot πŸ™‚

  3. I’m liking the balcony! What about moving the guitar up to the balcony? If you did keep the music note, I think it should be black. Call it tradition.

  4. Ideas

1 if you still have the dance studio you could change the colour and add it on top to act as a third floor

2 maybe expand the lower part of your town

    1. Thanks a lot for your ideas πŸ™‚ Expanding the city is unfortunately not possible. I’ve use all the room that I have for a city at this point. It won’t be until I move to a bigger place that I may have room. BUT, I’d loooooove to expand it. The next step in expanding is going to be to make custom buidlings for the raised section that are one or two floors taller than the existing ones – then there’ll be more LEGO while keeping the footprint the same πŸ˜€

  5. Oh well I can relate I have 0 room now for my LEGO city so a lot of people buy 2 of the same LEGO creator expert and use the other set to add a floor and do other things like expand sidewalks and extra details but right now the modulars are 300$ used now that’s unfair love your vids

    1. Thanks πŸ™‚ Yeah, I’m much more interested in going full MOC on the modulars for now on. The official ones with additions are beautiful, but I’d like to build my own city 100% from now on πŸ™‚ AND I have a looooooot of unused bricks that I want to use before I buy more bricks for MOCs πŸ™‚

  6. Love how you did the music notes on the front (sorry, I’m behind on videos. And BrickFJW’s suggestion is spot on for the signage! Would look great with both on them. Keep up the great work Jakob!

    1. Thanks a lot GJ – always great to hear from you πŸ™‚ I’m going to leave this for a bit and the come back to all the details once I’ve filled the rest of the baseplate… or maybe before that. Who knows πŸ˜€ Plans change! Thanks for your support – it’s highly appreciated πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks a lot for your input, I really appreciate it. Eventually, I will come back to revise the music store. I may take your view into account then. Thanks πŸ™‚
