LEGO City Update no. 15 – Marketplace! In this video I show you how I build some market stalls for the marketplace in my LEGO city – Bakersville! I also talk about some of the problems with space in a LEGO city and I rearrange the lighthouse I made in the last video.

First of all, what happened to City Update 14?
I like the idea for the little market – pretty cool, and Robin selling and eating bananas might help him lower his arm!
Also really like the change you’ve made to the steps up to the lighthouse. Looks so much better. Good work!
As for the rest of the space, how about a little park, with a tree or two and a bench so people can sit and relax?

Get your fruit ‘ere mum! Apples and Bananas, Cherries and Berries. All fresh and ready to eat!
These two stands or stalls are excellent Jakob. The novelty hat stand is really very clever. Reminds me of the Susquehanna Hat Company 😂 I love how you put me behind the fruit stand. I’m sure I could pull-off a genuine Cockney accent like the ones you hear in every London street market? Gawd blimey guv’nor!

I’m not sure there’s been an Abbott and Costello reference in my comments yet! Leave it to you to come up with such a fantastic reference! 😀 I’ve never really seen the show but I remember that Hannah Barbara used to produce a cartoon with Abbott and Costello which also aired on Danish television for a while!
Oh, and, when you shout “4-pence-a-pound” repeatedly, be sure to actually charge 12-pound-50 per four pieces of fruit, when someone actually wants to buy something. And be sure to sell the fruit from the yucky pile instead of the fresh pile displayed in front! 😀

Those stand look terrific! i agree with the others that the hat stand is my favorite. In the open area, you could put a couple benches for people to enjoy their fresh fruit or show off their new hat. What about a cart of some sort…ice cream or popcorn?

Nice marketplace and lighthouse stairs updates. I think the stairs could be cramped even more. To a width of 3 and maybe 2 at some places. I guess it would have been carved out a long time a go. So the smaller the width means less labor. The cliff could also be steeper, making more room for a park or more marked stands. And maybe there was a need to fill a void in the rock with some masonry, to support the stair.
I like the idea of having a small park. With a small out door stage, where the local upcoming bluegrass band could play. What about a small cave in the cliff, for a bunny to live.
The marked is missing a hot-dog stand. One of those NY style trolleys. This could tie the market and the park together.

I’m actually impressed that you were able to modify the staircase AND fit the marketplace in the same space! In my head I was okay at first with the studded baseplate to the marketplace since it was so close to the lighthouse. To me it reminded me of some flea markets I used to visit as a kid, simple stands setup for a brief period of time. But now with the sidewalk it reminds me of more the style of marketplaces in New York, where the stands are made a more permanent structure and layout. Some good building techniques in here like the sideways plates to hold up the awning and cool ideas for shops like a hat shop, fun indeed 🙂

As for the staircase, would it take up less space being a sprial staircase? It’s fine as is, especially with the surrounding rockwork.
There’s lots of potential hiding places in the rock, and the first that came to my mind was near the base of the lighthouse, where the 2x2x2 slope was shown up close around 2:00. I can see a couple ideas in that space alone, from a flip-up panel to a rotating rockface like in Battle for Ninjago City.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about something like that. Another possibility is a treasure cave or something. But, then again, there’s always less space that I think there is 😀 Thanks for the suggestions though – it’s very inspiring.
