OK, I really like your lighthouse but I have a suggestion if I may: how about extending the rock face you have around the lighthouse so it stretches under the stairs and platform? I think it would make the platform by the front door blend in better and look smaller?

Hmm, I’ll definitely consider it! I’m a little hesitant to add too much bulky builds in the front of the city as it’ll take the view from what’s behind it. But i concur – it would probably look good! 🙂

Hey Jakob – well that was a fun watch! The lighthouse you created is very ‘olde worlde’ – a throwback to classic imperial days, perhaps? I don’t know. But yets, it works. Except maybe for the very top. I might have looked a bit further for some more ideas, personally. Have you thought of doing something similar to other official Lego lighthouse sets? I think my personal favorite might be the roof on top of The Lighthouse of Darkness Set 70431 – but there are other simpler tops on other sets you might get some inspiration from – such as The Haunted Lighthouse Set 75903, The Lighthouse Island Set 5770 and The Friends: Lighthouse Rescue Centre Set 41380. In general, they all have a wider lip at the top above the light and then something on top of that. Maybe have a sift through your parts stock and see what else you’ve got? Otherwise, it’s looking great (although I’d be tempted to put a classic soldier up there on the balcony…) 😀👍

Thanks a lot for this comment RH! I see waht you mean about the top. Some good suggestions you have. My solution is partly because of my thoughts on integrating a newer look with an older one, and partly because of what pieces I have. I’m pretty sure that most of the solutions you’ve shown includes pieces that I don’t have. However, I am thinking about changing the roof of the top in some way. Some of your suggestions may have inspired me 😀 Thanks a lot RH – it’s really nice of you to suggest all this!

I like it. you built a lighthouse from scratch. that what makes it cool. all that you drew it out first. I need to do that more often. hehe. and yes i do see your pirate theme in the creation. incorporating our tastes is part of the fun when building a lego city or town.

Yeah, I think it’s fun to incorporate small homages to other sets and themes like this. I particularly like the pirates theme so having a tribute to hat in my city seemed inevitable 😀

Love the idea of an old fort or lookout point being repurposed into a lighthouse. I agree that the bottom part would look ‘olde-worlde’ and the operational part of the electric light would look more modern. Personally I don’t think the old part looks quite old enough, it would probably be stone-built at the bottom at least and so wouldn’t be smooth and white.
I also think that the staircase is unnecessary as it uses up a lot of room. That isn’t to say that you don’t need a staircase. You would just have some steps cut into the rocks to reach the door, which would be slightly lower down. That would make the tower look a bit taller. Although actually another row of bricks to add to the height wouldn’t hurt.
I like the idea, though and I think your build is pretty true to your original concept. Just a bit of tweaking and it could be even better!

Thanks a lot! Those are some interesting suggestions! I had thought about making it a little taller at some point, but I kinda like the plumb stature 🙂 However, the stone-built staircase may be a great idea. Not sure I can make it for the next update though… maybe I’ll make it part of the next update 😀 Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

Here in the U.K., and particularly on the Kent coast we have Martello Towers. They were build when the threat of invasion from Napoleon was a very real possibility. Although they look very much like the type of sandcastle you make with a plain old bucket, your lighthouse/watchtower very much reminded me of them. Especially the entrance via a ladder.

hey Jakob, Jstar here again… I had a thought for your light house… since you can’t fit the small arches all the way around… what if you did 1 tall arch and 1 short arch on each side… so raise up the arch on the left by 1 stud… so it’s window opening is basically 2 studs tall… leave the other as is… then rotate the light house and repeat… now the arch on the left can rest on top of the short arch from the previous side… go all the way around the light house. I think it could make it look like there are circular stairs inside. Does this make sense? I should build it to show you my thought! Anywho… love watching your youtube videos!
